Legends of the Grote Jager are known to most rural communities of the land. For the most part it is regarded as just that, a legend. In some ways it has devolved ever further to barely more than a mythical being of some long tossed-aside pagan heritage. In recent times Grote Jager is little more than a scapegoat for natural phenomena such as foxfire, an especially surreptitious fox evading a hunting party or a bogeyman to scare children into good behavior.
He is generally regarded as a shadowy ettin who slinks through forest as little more than a living shadow. Of his true nature no one source agrees but most can accord his head is crowned with a great rack of antlers.
